History of the Centre
The Ozanam Centre buildings consist of a modern accommodation block and a charming old Welsh hill farm. The farm was built around 1800 and named Tyn-y-pwll, which means in Welsh “home near the little lake”.
In 1979 the site was purchased by the St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales). The Centre was named “The Ozanam Centre” after the founder of the SVP, Frederick Ozanam.
The centre was established in order to provide low-cost holidays for economically disadvantaged children and families, and for people with special needs. It has been providing breaks and recreational activities for disadvantaged people for over 25 years, and adopted as an SVP National Special Work in 2001.
